10.2.16: Beautiful Beaufort

Beaufort (think “beautiful” not “bo” when you say it), really is a stunning place. It’s one of the oldest cities in South Carolina and is the epitome of southern charm. It’s no wonder it was chosen as a location in the film Forrest Gump.

This is one of those places where I really have to let the photos speak for themselves. It’s a tiny town, so it doesn’t take a lot of time to see it, but take your time – it’s SO worth it. We spent a wonderful afternoon at the annual shrimp festival, enjoying a lot of fantastic food. We then took some time to just wander the area, talk to the locals, and ogle the lavish houses and ancient oak trees. One thing I learned, there’s a very specific type of oak tree that grows more horizontally, which is what you see all over this community. Topped with the Spanish moss, it’s an amazing amalgamation of haunting and charm. We all agreed that Halloween would be a pretty wonderful experience in Beaufort. And I’m pretty sure we discovered THE Secret Garden.
